Kids’ Dentistry in Croydon

Good dental habits start early. At Elation Dental, we help children feel relaxed and confident at the dentist, so check-ups become a normal, stress-free part of growing up. We take things at your child’s pace, explain what we’re doing in words they understand, and involve them in every step.

Getting started

When should my child first see a dentist?

We recommend a first visit when the first tooth appears, or by your child’s first birthday.

Early visits are short and gentle. They let us check how teeth are developing, catch problems early, and help your child get used to the dental chair before they ever need treatment.

  1. Getting comfortable

Your child meets the dentist, sees the room and tries out the chair. Little ones can sit on your lap.

  2. A gentle check

We look at their teeth, gums and bite and check how their teeth are growing. Older kids can count their teeth with us using the mirror.

  3. A clean, if needed

We may polish their teeth to remove plaque.

  4. Tips for home

We show you and your child how to brush and floss, and talk about snacks and drinks that are kind to teeth.

  5. Your questions

We cover anything you’re unsure about, from teething and thumb sucking to when adult teeth come through.

Medicare

Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)

Your child may be eligible for government-funded dental care under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

The CDBS covers exams, x-rays, fillings, root canals and other basic services for children aged 0 to 17 whose parents receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant Australian Government payment. It doesn’t cover orthodontic or cosmetic treatment.

For 2026–27, eligible children can receive up to $1,158 in benefits for basic dental services over 2 calendar years. The cap is indexed every year on 1 January. See what’s covered on the Services Australia website.

Bulk billed

No out-of-pocket cost for covered treatment

We bulk bill eligible services under the CDBS. Before treatment starts, our team will check your child’s eligibility and remaining balance.

Bring your child’s Medicare card to the appointment.

At home

Healthy habits at home

Brushing

Brush twice a day, after breakfast and before bed. Use a small, soft brush in gentle circles along the gumline. Most children need help until they’re about 7 or 8.

Toothpaste

Don’t use toothpaste before 18 months unless your dentist advises it. From 18 months to 6 years, use a pea-sized amount of low-fluoride children’s toothpaste. Teach your child to spit it out rather than rinse.

Flossing

Start flossing once teeth are touching each other.

Food and drinks

Tap water and plain milk are the best drinks. Keep sweet snacks, juice and soft drinks to a minimum, especially between meals.

Bedtime

Don’t put babies to bed with a bottle of milk or juice.

Check-ups

Regular visits, usually every 6 to 12 months, help us catch small problems before they become big ones.

Nervous kids

Making visits easy

If your child is nervous, let us know when you book. We’ll take extra time and go at their pace.

  • Talk about the dentist in a positive way at home
  • Avoid words like “hurt” or “needle”
  • Book a morning appointment, when kids are usually fresher
